The Embedded Intelligence Economy

“The Measure of Intelligence is The Ability to Change”. Albert Einstein – theoretical physicist and thinker, 20th Century.

In the 1950s, the early development of machine learning laid the foundation for data-driven decision-making, which saw major advancements with the rise of big data in the 1990s. Cloud services later transformed businesses by offering scalable storage and computational power, setting the stage for tools such as Robotic Process Automation. These tools revolutionized industries by automating repetitive, rule-based tasks, thereby increasing efficiency and minimizing human error. As decentralized technologies like blockchain gained traction, they enabled secure transactions and smart contracts. By the mid-2010s, the emergence of generative AI models brought about automated complex decision-making and predictive analytics, which could be seamlessly integrated into various products and systems.

At MiddleGame Ventures, we are witnessing the convergence of these historical technological advancements into what we now call the Embedded Intelligence Economy. Note that others have talked about Embedded Intelligence before us. We append “Economy” to that term.

Imagine Sarah, founder of a fintech startup, leveraging AI agents to automate core operations. These agents handle tasks like customer onboarding, fraud detection, and loan approvals, seamlessly interacting with APIs to verify identities, access financial data, and process payments. As workflows progress, funds are disbursed or collected automatically, without requiring Sarah’s intervention. This seamless experience, powered by embedded intelligence, represents the future of financial services. As AI, sustainable energy, and distributed ledgers reduce the costs and expand the availability of computing power and intelligence, cloud computing and real-time communication networks will in turn reaccelerate this transformation. With smart contracts and AI automating complex workflows, human intervention and intermediaries will become a thing of the past, ushering in a new era of financial efficiency and transparency.

MiddleGame Ventures has defined three key pillars on this front: Intelligent Assets, Intelligent Transactions, and Intelligent Agents. These foundational elements are seamlessly transforming how value is created, exchanged, and managed, unlocking unprecedented levels of efficiency and innovation in the financial industry.

First, Intelligent Assets are revolutionizing the concept of ownership. In this new world, assets like financial stocks, real estate, and even art can be tokenized, fractionalized, and traded in seconds. No longer static, these assets become dynamic and liquid, accessible to anyone. Companies like Finoa are offering secure digital custody solutions to institutional investors, while companies such as One Trading, Ctrl Alt, and Keyrock enable seamless trading and management of tokenized assets. By digitizing traditionally illiquid assets, these companies are unlocking capital flows that fuel innovation and open up previously inaccessible markets.

Next, Intelligent Transactions are making financial flows faster, safer, and more transparent. Gone are the days of manual approvals, endless paperwork, and long waiting periods. AI-driven, real-time data processing enables instant transfers, whether for simple payments or complex settlements. NoFrixion, for example, is easing the payment process for nonbanks by building infrastructure that allows businesses to move money effortlessly. Circit streamlines financial audits, while Wayflyer uses predictive analytics to offer revenue-based financing to e-commerce firms, and Kayna leverages AI to underwrite policies and manage claims in the insurance sector. In this new world, machine-to-machine payments and decentralized finance platforms automate capital flows, making them not only more efficient but also smarter and more transparent.

Finally, Intelligent Agents represent the future catalyst of financial workflows. These autonomous systems, powered by AI, can handle complex financial operations without human oversight. They will take over tasks like transacting, validating, and managing workflows, driving down costs and eliminating inefficiencies. Next Gate Tech automates post-trade workflows, optimizing asset management with data-driven insights and improving operational efficiency. Payslip automates global payroll systems, reducing the administrative burden, while Outmin leverages AI to automate accounting and bookkeeping tasks for SMEs. These Intelligent Agents allow businesses to scale by automating repetitive tasks, freeing up human employees to focus on strategic, high-level decision-making.

Just as Sarah’s AI agents effortlessly managed workflows and transactions, the Embedded Intelligence Economy is transforming industries across the board, with financial services at the forefront of this revolution. What we are witnessing is a different type of digitization, one which will enhance human beings by bringing heightened decision capabilities, and analytical outputs, and ultimately facilitating autonomous actions to execute intelligent transactions. We are keen to participate in this new wave by investing in tomorrow’s infrastructure for the new new economy.
